At times the universe
works in your favor,
At times against.
It holds up a mirror
when all you want is to look away.
Forces a reckoning
with shadows you swore you’d buried.
These moments
are the headwaters of change.
Temptation rarely shouts.
It whispers, seduces,
dresses up as hunger,
as thrill,
as the perfect excuse.
If you’re not careful
it will steal your soul.
eat your lunch.
I let it.
But the universe isn’t cruel.
It just doesn’t flinch.
It offers a way back.
Not without pain.
Not without cost.
But still,
it offers.
I had a dream.
There was a thing -
an angel maybe,
or something dressed like one.
One wing was a woman,
The other a man.
The face of a devil,
But shifting,
becoming that thing
I wanted most.
It spoke in symbols.
“Connect”, it intoned,
“through strength,
with justice”.
It spoke in yellow and blue.
“Raise the cup,
look into the lion’s mouth.
Honor the sword.
Hold the throne.”
It promised infinity,
earthly joy.
A union of three.
Then it turned
and looked into me
“The world can be yours,” it said,
“but there is a price.
Hone desire with discipline.
Stop hiding behind indulgence.
Quit playing small.
You have what you need.”
Then it became a woman,
radiant, terrible in her beauty.
“Love me” she said,
with no need to own me.
Then I will be yours.”
With that she vanished.
We’re not asked to be perfect.
Not even to win.
Just to show up,
face the dark,
balance our wings.
Keep walking
The devil tempts
while the angel waits.
If you find the courage
to walk the razor’s edge
between craving and clarity,
between logic and longing,
you become
the one who’s waited silently
behind your eyes
since the dawn of your time.
